2009 - ANNUAL  HOLIDAY  PARTY  FOR  CHILDREN

METHODIST HOSPITAL -  LOWER LEVEL
2301 S. BROAD ST., PHILA., PA.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 5th
11:30 AM - 1:30 PM

The Asian American Women's Coalition members are warming up to prepare our annual holiday
party for Asian children of need.  Methodist Hospital is extremely generous in donating the room for our party on the lower level, scrumptious food, and children funds.  Preparations for this event start in January and continue throughout the year until the party.  We provide musical and special entertainment, arts and crafts, party favors, and Santa Claus with bags full of wrapped gifts for about 50 children from local Asian communities.

Each year to help defray these costs we ask for contributions of $25 or more from our membership and supporters.  We hope you will get into the spirit and support us with your check donation payable to AAWC, Holiday Party, 301-305 N. 9th St., Phila., Pa. 19107 and/or learning toy donations for the average age of 5.  Please write description on check as "Holiday Party".

Thank you very much for your generosity!

Female executives from diverse backgrounds constantly face the challenge of successfully navigating their way into the upper echelons of the professional world. They must traverse age, experience, and cultural differences between themselves and other women professionals to insure the upward mobility for all women in the business arena.
In this follow up to our previous event "Diversity in Leadership," attendees will further explore the impact that culture and background have on the way women across all races are perceived by other women within, and outside of, their own race.

We are honored to have two certified experts in the field of diversity training co-facilitate our event:

Nila Betof
Chief Operating Officer, The Leader's Edge
and
Estelle Matthews
Sr. Vice President, State HR Team Leader for Mid-Atlantic Bank, Wachovia Bank

Nila and Estelle will delve into issues such as race and gender stereotypes and initiate candid dialogue among attendees in this interactive exercise designed to create awareness and understanding across cultural lines and among women leaders.
The "Diversity in Leadership" event sold out and space is limited, so take part in the continuing conversation with other female professionals and leaders in the community.

Dubbed "Through My Father's Eyes," the exhibit was first presented in San Francisco and highlights the work of photographer Ricardo Alvarado (1914-1976). His collection of photographs chronicles the early existence of  Filipinos in California during the post-war era.

The opening night on April 29 at 6:30 p.m. will showcase the Island's culinary delights, Filipino serenade and music, and performances by the Philippine Folk Arts Society. Films on Filipinos in America will also be featured.

This exhibit is made possible through the support of the Smithsonian Institute, Atwater Kent Museum, Free Library of Philadelphia, and Federal Express.
